New Year New Me

Happy 2014 fellow bloggers. Now that's out of the way, we know what the new year is all about - making New Year Resolutions and of course sticking to them.

So my Resolutions for this year are as follows: -

1) Finally Give up Smoking ( I've had 5 since New Year's Day).
2) Save the money I was spending on Cigarettes to pay for stuff towards our wedding.
3) Get to the gym and work off this fat - taking advantage of 3 months free gym membership at our wedding reception venue.
4) Throw out and de-clutter anything I don't need anymore so that I don't have too much crap to take to Kevin's when I finally move in with him.
5) Get THAT new job I so rightfully deserve.
6) Eat more healthily and use fry light for cooking/frying stuff.
7) Lose 3 Stones by March for when I have my first dress fitting!

So that's my Resolutions. What about you?

Kevin's Birthday Weekend

This weekend was Kevin's birthday. I feel quite sad but am happy at the same time.

Why sad you say? Well this time next year he won't be my fiance anymore.....
He will be my Husband. Finally after years of waiting for my Mr Right and the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, I found Kevin. Kevin and I met through a mutual friend seven years ago and although we have had our up's and downs I'm pleased to say that Kevin is my Mr Right. I love this man so much, words cannot describe...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GemKqzILV4w

Back to the Birthday weekend now. Our friend Dani ( said mutual friend earlier on) and her fella Paul were up from London for the weekend as they would be flying out to Perth - Australia on the Sunday morning - the day of Kevin's birthday. Dani had suggested that we go out for a meal because we wouldn't see them over Christmas with them being in Perth. We had originally opted for Beijing, a local Chinese restaurant but thought it to be rather expensive, we finally decided on The New Waggoners. A local pub/restaurant. All the food is homemade and you get loads. I decided on the Braised Steak in Peppercorn sauce as I have had it before from there and it is divine, like heaven in your mouth. As soon as you cut into the meat it falls apart. It's one of the best things ever. For starter I had homemade Thai Fishcakes. These were lovely, so moist and soft, not gooey and crammed with potatoes, just plenty of flaked salmon. Heaven.

Kevin had the chicken goujons which were seriously spicy, they tasted like they had been flame cooked and had a spicy middle eastern fiery kick about them. Next he decided to have Whale and Chips for his main. And boy was it a whale!!!!

Kevin and The Whale.
He struggled to eat it, I can tell you and I know my Kevin likes his food. But this was so big, that even for Kevin it was a challenge. When the time came for us to leave and say goodbye to our friends Dani and Paul, they headed home and we were picked up by Kevin's brother Mark. He dropped us off at the Miners where we met some other friends. Steve and his girlfriend Kelly along with Steve's daughter Sam who was celebrating her birthday that day. Sam suffers from Cerebral Palsy and is one of the loveliest girls I've met. She's not only very pretty, but clever, witty and doesn't take crap from anyone. She's always telling her dad Steve off, she takes the piss out of him. But Steve being Steve takes it on his chin and just tells her to shut up. We only had a couple of drinks with them and decided to head for home but not before a quick trip into the 110 for a bit of entertainment. Normally we don't go in when a particular singer known as Mike Alone is on, but we knew we wouldn't stay long....

The following morning was Kevin's Birthday. Yeeeeeeaaaah! I love birthday's and being able to spend the day with my gorgeous man on his last birthday as a fiance is one of the best feelings in the world. So after Kevin opened his cards and presents we headed off to see his mom and dad before heading off to Asda (Walmart for my American readers) to do some shopping and get something for dinner.

Next it was back home for a quick bite to eat - Bacon, sausage and egg for me and Bacon and sausage butties for Kevin.  Then we headed round to Kevin's brothers to pick up some presents Dani and Paul had left with him for Christmas before heading into town to sort out a dress that Kevin had bought for me. I then proceeded to drag Kevin round the shops looking for Christmas decorations for his flat. For the last couple of years he's only had a tree up but this year I wanted to make my mark, so i'm slowly  adding little things. Here's a few decorations I've put up so far.

Kevin's Tree

The lonely Snowman - I need to get him a mate.

These cute paper balls remind me of when I was little - I need to get some more. The cute wreath on the door welcomes you into "our" (well at least it will be ours next Christmas) home. I wanted something to brighten up the mirror in the background as well but nothing too over the top so this star garland was perfect.

I've just got a few more bits to add to Kevin's tree and he'll try and put his window lights and decorations up and we are sorted.

So that's what we got up to this weekend. What did ya'll get up to?

Lace & Tiaras, Garters & Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Something Old, Something New!

OUR LOVE STORY

Yes Kevin and I have finally set a date for our Wedding! We originally decided on 6th September 2014, but one of Kevin's friend's couldn't make it and we both want him there so we moved the date to 30th August 2014.

Yesterday (Tuesday 22nd) we met with the Wedding Coordinator at The Oaks Hotel in Burnley. I had my 21st there and it's still as beautiful as I remember it. So we told her our date, she checked the diary and low & behold the date had been booked. We said we can be flexible with our dates and finally moved our date to 16th August. Almost a month earlier than we originally planned. At least it will STILL be Summer and might be a warm day, September is often a bit nippy and you never know what the weather will be like, so I'm actually quite pleased that we've moved the date to 16th August.

That's 3 changes in the space of a fortnight! Now that Kevin's decided on his attire and our colour theme of Claret and Ivory has been decided, we can now think about booking the Oaks, finding my dress and sorting our cupcakes, finalizing our choice of Wedding Car to get us both to the Church,  sort our Photographer and our Invitations.

I've found my dress!
We've booked the Oaks...the deposit's been paid and it's all in hand....next up is the photographer and the invitations! Come on Gregg get a move on with the printing!!!!!

Then it's all systems GO! The Pilling-McKnight Wedding can get underway!

If I were....

If I were a(n)...

MONTH, I would be...July/August - Summer in Salou. Beaches and Brain freezing iced slush, San Miguel by the pool.

COLOR, I would be... Claret...my wedding colour and Burnley Football Club.

TIME OF DAY, I would be... the hour surrounding sunrise, where everything is peaceful. The day is new and fresh, still quiet, and with muted colors, slowly warming as the sun peeks over the horizon.

SUPERPOWER, I would be... time travel. Relive favorite memories, savor them again. Visit with loved ones who've passed away, hear more of their stories. Explore other times in history, observing quietly from the edges. See my Granddad Hawil one last time.

FLOWER, I would be... a big bold Sunflower.

SONG, I would be... Kenny Chesney's "I'm Alive," because if anything captures my attitude toward life, it's the words in that song.

ITEM OF CLOTHING, I would be... pajama pants: soft and comforting, made for relaxing. Oh and a Onesie.

ANIMAL, I would be... domestic cat. Independent when necessary. I require my personal space and others are only welcome into on my terms. I can be sleepy or playful...occasionally a bit hissy.

FOOD, I would be... a box of chocolates. You never know quite what you're going to get. Especially before you open the box.

MOVIE, I would be... "It's a Wonderful Life." A life lesson, one I try to live by.

CITY/TOWN, I would be... Salou, Spain. Just having sunshine most of the year round and being able to go into shops etc and have the people know who you are even if they only see you once a year.

SPORT, I would be... Soccer. Or as us Brits like to call it - Football.

TV CHARACTER, I would be...

EMOTION, I would be...Happy - All the time.

DIRECTION, I would be... North. You can take a Northern Girl south, but she'll never change her Northern roots for anyone.

SOUND, I would be... laughter. It's good for the soul. I seek out ways to be silly every day. I'm so not changing this answer!

HOLIDAY, I would be... Christmas. I don't believe in all the presents and the spending money, drinking and all that. Christmas is about the birth of Christ and the celebration of his birth.

SCENT, I would be a mixture of Cookies and Cream or Strawberry and Vanilla. These smells are some of my favourite.

Five things

1) New recipe tried this month:
I wouldn't say they were new but I've had a few soups made in the soup maker.

2) Restaurants where I ate:
Sycamore Farm with Kevin and my Folks.

3) Five things I am loving this month:
1. Seeing everything coming into place for the wedding.
2. My Homemade wedding invitations.
3. Homity Pie....I am going to make this!
4. Seeing Kevin's mum getting a little stronger everyday.
5. My ickle Cat Pencil case.

4) Something I learned:
That Wedding Photographers do NOT come cheap. Kevin seems to think they do.

5) The best part of this month and the worst part of this month:
Finding my perfect wedding dress! I saw it at a Bridal fair being modeled and I knew it was the one I wanted. It's just gorgeous.

Having a row with Kevin on Sunday about him telling his brother about my putting wine in my bolognese sauce. Kevin and his brother and sister-in-law apparently had a laugh at my expense. I was not best pleased.

A Little Sunshine Link Up

Hey guys and Gals. Hope ya'll well. Not been around for a while. Anyway after seeing this over on Miranda's blog I thought I'd do it and link back...
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_wh4tt8jPMSjuIQJa1PP2I1-jXKIQG_uBtHVhras_GHR17o7y3EnWK2NdaKlPV9u2RYNKDH-QqEeXCCefb_7xnQOciLsYCRUQWDvVh1sSudCxdxXyL1bMxm8rP_WB587cQWn2ahXe6a4/s1600/sunshine.jpg

Here are the "rules"...

1. Link back to the blog who nominated you for the sunshine award.
2. Include the sunshine logo in your post.
3. Answer the questions given to you by your nominator.
4. Nominate bloggers who add sunshine to your day!

Now to answer the questions that Miranda asked me:

1. What is your absolute, least favorite household chore? This would definitely be the Vacuuming. I totally detest it.
2. What was your favorite subject in high school?  I kinda quite liked Computer Studies oh and French. My friends all thought I had a crush on my French teacher...I didn't btw. He was totally vile.
3. Do you prefer to live in the city, or in a more rural setting? I wouldn't mind living in the city, but here in my little village is fine. It's usually quiet and peaceful. We do get the odd drama now and again, that's about it.
4. What is your biggest obsessive habit?
5. Do you ever eat cereal for dinner? I did once for two weeks, whilst doing the "Kellogs Special K" Diet.
6. On Friday nights, do you like to go out or stay in? Depends. I'm not really fussy. I don't like to go out if I know I have to be up early for work. But mostly Kevin and I do go out.
7. What color do you wear most often? Blue, Black,Purple,Brown.
8. Least favorite day of the week besides Monday? Sunday, Obviously. Because it means it will soon be Monday!
9. Do your family and real life friends know about your blog? No. I think my mom does but she doesn't know how to read my posts or use blogger for that matter.
10. The beach, or the mountains? Oh the beach for sure. Nothing beats the sand and the sea for me.

You might not know that I....am trying to write a novel...

The hottest quarterback in the NFL is...I don't know. I don't watch NFL.

If I could....win the lottery I would just jump on a plane and head off to Salou, I'd be more than happy to say goodbye to work and everything cold and miserable about Britain for a few weeks.

Twerking is....Just simply not right.

I think it's super gross when...Philly cheese goes moldy. Ewwww.

Someone needs to tell Miley Cyrus....to get the heck off my TV- like right NOW!

Tuesday Topics-7 American Cities

It's link up time again, this time with Lauren for Tuesday Topics.

This week 7 American Cities I want to visit. Well I have not really been to that many.

The places I've visited in America are.... San Diego, La Jolla, LA, Santa Barabara, Santa Monica, Las Vegas. That's it! Do small towns count?

The ones I do want to see though are:-

1. San Francisco - I've always wanted to visit Alcatraz and ride on the trams. So much to do as well.

2. New York - A trip to America isn't complete without visiting New York.

3. Chicago - The windy city. Plus my cousin who we don't see that often lives here.

4. Seattle - Not just because it's where Fifty shades of Grey was set, but because one of my favourite TV shows was set here - Fraiser. God I loved that show.

5. Dallas- Because it's home to one of the most popular 80's shows ever made....need I say anything more?

6. Miami - Just for the beaches and the glorious nightlife and the weather of course!

7. Finally New Orleans - Home of Blues and everything else connected with the South.....

Can I include one more? Purrlease.....No I hear you say. Well I'm going to anyway so there.

I would also love to visit Memphis...because this is where Elvis Presley's home - Graceland's is located and I've always been a fan.

So there's my 7 (8) American Cities I want to visit...what's on your list?

Guest Post - Michelle Betham

Today I have a very special guest on my blog. Author of  Striker - part one of three books in her Trilogy.
I'm kinda hoping having Michelle here today will gain me a few followers.

So without further waffling and rambling on from me, I'll hand you over to Michelle and why she felt she needed to change the cover for her first book in this trilogy - Striker from this.....

To this....

Over to you Michelle....

Sexy soccer romance Striker re-launches with a brand new cover!

To mark the imminent release of Extra Time, book two in my steamy soccer trilogy, I’ve decided to re-launch Striker – book one in the series – but this time, with a brand new cover! Why? I’ll tell you…
As an indie author, I’m not lucky enough to be able to sell books on my name alone, so, I need book covers that say right from the off what that story inside is all about. Did the original cover for Striker do that? I’m not sure that it did. Because, as my husband kindly pointed out, the first thing that hit you in the face when you looked at that cover was the football/soccer ball. And that in itself could have been enough to make people avoid the book without even giving it a chance, especially if you're someone who really doesn't like the sport.
Now, I actually loved the original cover, but after listening to my husband’s reasons for changing it, I realise he did actually have a point. Striker is, after all, a romance. Yes, it’s quite an edgy, very racy, sometimes extremely steamy romance, but it is a romance. It’s not a book about football, even though it is set against the backdrop of the world of professional football. It just happens to be a book that tells the story of people involved within the sport – but it’s a book that concentrates very much on the off-pitch action. There are things that go on in that dressing room that you’ll never see on ‘Match of the Day’, believe me…
Some readers who’ve already read the book have admitted that they don’t like football – some have even said they hate the sport. But they loved Striker. And what better comments could I have had than that? Proof that you don’t have to like football to enjoy the book. And that’s what I needed to get across to new, potential readers. I’ve playfully dubbed the trilogy “Fifty Shades of Football”, so that tells you something about the content. But did the old cover for Striker get that message across? No. I don’t think it did. I think it could have detracted rather than attracted potential readers – so it had to go. Does the new one do a better job of getting the real feel of the story across? Yes, I think it does. It’s a story that’s more about the sex than the soccer, and that’s what I needed to get across on the cover.
So, with a brand new cover for Striker, and Extra Time due out in September, the game continues for the Striker Trilogy...

Thank you Michelle. It's been a pleasure to have you.

9 Travel Essentials

Life.Love.Lauren

Nine Travel Essentials

  1. My iPhone - Necessary for taking photos.
  2. Pens - for if I need to jot things down or do my puzzles.
  3. Kindle Fire HD - Mainly comes with me for reading books by the pool or on the beach.
  4. Sun lotion - We got some from the hotel this year, it was quite good stuff.
  5. Green Tea. I hate the taste of Milk in hot countries so more often than not I would have a cup of Green tea.
  6. Collection 2000 waterproof mascara in Brown/Black. This came in really handy and I still have loads left.
  7. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle conditioner. When I'm on my hols my hair tends to get really dry and goes frizzy because of the heat and humidity, not to mention the harshness of the water. So this makes it shiny and stops it frizzing.
  8. Liz Earle Hot cloth cleanse and polish - For taking my make-up off.
  9. Nivea Double Effect make up remover - gets make up off perfectly first time.

So there's my 9 travel essentials. What are your favourites?

Owls&Lightning Bolts& Love

Hello, 2nd post today-I'm on a roll....

Well I didn't see Kevin on Saturday as I normally would, I ended up at the Trafford Centre with my folks....

Now I love this store called Forever21. They have some super cute jewellery at reasonable prices so when I saw these I knew I had to snap them up quick!

Lightning Bolt Bracelet-I wanted this in gold but didn't see any.

Love Bangle-this is super cute. Couldn't resist this one.

Lastly is this super cute owl ring, it was in the sale for £1 at River Island! i couldnt resist this....Those of you who already know me will know that I have a slight obsession with anything Owl.

Have you visited a Forever 21 shop? What do you Like best?

Five For Five

Is it seriously Monday again? Well anyway had a good week last week. Managed 4.5/5 this week.

2) Keep on top of my o2 Bill.

3) Dust and Vacuum my room. I dusted it but didn't vacuum...so 4.5 out of 5.

4) Sort out the iPhone and clear up the photos app.

5) Complete the invoices for this month.

This week's more or less similar...

Five for 5 Link up.

It's Link up time again with Jess n Jenn.  I haven't been around for a couple of weeks so this might turn into a bit of a long post! Last time I was here, these were my goals for the week.

1) Make sure ALL my clothes are washed and Ironed.

3) Book an appointment at the Salon to have my bikini wax.
4) Change the bikini top I bought from Walmart (Asda) for a size 16.

Holidays&Fun&Family&Bingo

Holidays and To- Do Lists

Hey Y'all. Sorry for not being around for a couple of weeks. I've just been super busy with things going on at work and sorting stuff out for my upcoming holiday (We go in the early hours of Friday morning!! Yaaaaay!) and I simply cannot wait to get on that plane and touch down in Salou.

This year it's just myself and Kevin and his mum and dad. Same as last year. But they stopped in a different hotel to us. Hopefully Ian won't moan as much about coming up to the Calypso to see us this year, as they're stopping with us.

Mostly we will stay in the hotel as it's AI (All Inclusive) but if we do go out at night, we might have a wander down to the Funky Munky or the Black Bull for a couple of games of Bingo...(Kevin wants to win the £1000 on the bingo at the Black Bull)...Seems we're having a bit of luck on the bingo as the last couple of weeks or so when we have played at the 110 club we have won 4 lines, 2 houses and it's mostly been me!

It will be nice to see our friends Encarna and Narcis, along with Carmen and Benet (Narcis' parents) who also work within the hotel. Hopefully Dominguez and Rosaria will be there too.

I've got loads to do before we go, I still need to sort my suitcase out properly, make sure I have ALL my necessary toiletries among other things, paint my finger nails, apply some Eco-Tan Accelerator and then wash my hair and have a shower tonight, all before I change my bedding!  And I need to get it all done before tomorrow night, I'm sure I'll get it done, but then tomorrow I need to take my Grandma shopping.

I think I need to write a To-Do List....

Anyway here's a couple of Photos from last year of my beloved Salou....

Ten Things I Have Never Done

TEN THINGS I’VE NEVER DONE!

The idea for this post came from the lovely suzie over at http://suzietullett.com  and that came from Amanda Eganhttp://mummymisfit.blogspot.gr/2012/08/ive-never-seen-star-wars.html who challenged her blog readers to come up with 10 things that they’ve never done.
This seemed like a really good idea so, I hope that the lovely Suzie doesn't mind me borrowing it to share with my fellow bloggers here.
  • I have Never been to New York.

I admit that this is definitely something that I would love to do. My brother went in 2002 with his University and really enjoyed it. My mom and dad also went with my god-parents for their 25th wedding anniversary and I have to say that I am so so jealous. New York is one of the places I would love to visit.
  • I have never ridden a horse.
The thought of riding a horse doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't know why but it just doesn't.
  • I have never owned a dog or a cat as a pet.
I have always wanted a dog or a cat growing up. But my mom was always very house proud and didn't want the hair everywhere. I'd have loved either a little Jack Russell, a Labrador, or a Yorkshire Terrier. Maybe even a little Staffordshire Bull Terrier. As for a cat, a black one like my brother's cat - Oscar. Or maybe a nice brown Tabby cat.
  • I have never been to University.
No I have never been to University. I did however get offered a place at Edge Hill in Ormskirk, but by the time I had got my results back for my Leisure & Tourism course it would have been December and too late for me to catch up on all the work.
  • I have never been to a Music Festival.
Although I do love my music, being stuck in a tent and camping just never appealed to me.
  • I have never seen the "Star Wars" films.
Not because I haven't wanted to, Star Wars just doesn't interest me. I am not and never have been a fan of Science Fiction or Sci-Fi.
  • I have never changed a car tyre
My dad has always changed them for me so have never had the need to.
  • I have never been one for clubbing when I was younger.
I used to go out with a group of girls at college but then when we left college everyone went their separate ways and we kinda lost touch until facebook.
  • I have never lived away from my parents for more than 2 weeks.
Mainly because I have never been able to afford my own place, never had the money. I've been away on holiday for the past six years with my Fiance but that's about it.
  • I have never had to wear glasses
Almost everyone in my family now wears glasses, for reading or for distance. I have always been lucky not to have had to wear them.
So there's ten things that I never done. What's yours? I would like to share with you guys. x
